Five years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 concluded, J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World returned with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a film that was designed to serve as the first entry in a five-part prequel/spinoff to the Harry Potter franchise. The second chapter, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, is now here and it weaves Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts universe together splendidly.

The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up six months after the events of the first movie, in the year 1927. Dark Wizard, Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) finally makes good on his promise to escape MACUSA custody while he’s being transported to Europe and he resumes his quest to find Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), who is an abused wizard with an Obscurus parasite who appearances to the contrary managed to survive his showdown with MAUSCA. Now he is traveling Paris in a secret wizard circus in hopes to discover who he is.

On the other hand, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is recruited by his former Hogwarts professor, Albys Dumbledore (Jude Law) to find Credence before Grindelwald does, though Dumbledore avoids why he can’t fight Grindelwald. Along the way Newt is reunited with his friends, Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol) and learns that Tina (Katherine Paterson) is also searching for Creadence. From here we see all the magic unfold as the race to Credence is more heart racing than ever.

Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald does a fantastic job at connecting Harry Potter to the Fantastic Beasts world well! Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is in theaters now!
