Would Rebecca Rothstein’s husband be proud of his wife’s ideology and stance against capitalism? Rebecca, a Maryland teacher, recently made the news when she called for an urgent fight against capitalism.

Rothstein describes herself as ‘proud as f*ck to be liberal.’ On the one hand, she brags about being a teacher and role model. On the other, her stance regarding capitalism and revolution makes one question her teaching capability.

The Maryland teacher has openly said, ‘revolutions involve violence,’ and she believes educators should use their classrooms to turn kids into anti-racist activists. Rothstein works at North Bethesda Middle School in the Montgomery County School District.

Rebecca proudly showcased her beliefs on TikTok until Monday, when a news outlet reached out to her regarding her comment on violent revolutions. Did someone get to Rebecca, or did she have a change of heart? No one knows this yet.

“As a teacher I wish we could do more with our students like teach anti-racism and how to be kind people. Does anyone else feel like… we can skip the math, skip the science, like we’ll do that next year. Maybe this year we focus on teaching our youth how to be anti-racist,” she said on TikTok.

Rothstein also posted about providing “Marxist literature” to kids and said, “F*ck capitalism.” She shared that she was “tired after a long day of teaching students.”

According to the teacher, she had to un-brainwash herself from capitalism in order to fall in love with socialism and communism.

Adding to her anti-capitalism statement, she further stated that if everyone had the same amount of money, then money wouldn’t be worth anything.

She chants “capitalism must go” multiple times in her video.

She also said in that video that “revolutions involve violence.” The background music, “Ain’t nothing wrong with that,” gave a quirky touch to her video.

The district has not commented on Rebecca’s quote on violent revolutions and whether they supported the rhetoric.

Rothstein’s war against capitalism isn’t the first time she suggested endorsing violent behavior.

Regarding the pro-Black Lives Matter riots, Rothstein said, “I am f*cking angry, and it’s weird as f*ck that you’re not. When I’m talking about the patriarchy or racism or police brutality, why the f*ck would you not be angry?”

Rothstein’s behavior and tendency to become violent makes her a very different kind of teacher. While the causes she speaks up for may be right, her way of conveying her message is objectionable.

Teachers are role models for their students as they play a massive role in shaping impressionable minds. A teacher should think a thousand times before saying something because their words can have way more impact than one can imagine.
